Autism and autism spectrum disorders, psychomotor and psycho-speech developmental delay

Today, despite numerous and many years of research conducted in all countries of the world, the problem of medical and social rehabilitation of patients with autism and autistic spectrum disorders remains unresolved.

The problem of autism and the autistic circle of disorders, including psychomotor and delayed speech development and the provision of adequate assistance to them, is one of the most pressing in the field of psychiatry.

This is due to their high frequency of development, with concomitant personality, behavioral, communicative, psychosomatic disorders, certain difficulties in timely diagnosis and the lack of a detailed system of medical and psychosocial care.

According to various authors, child autism occurs in 2-4 to 6-10 cases per 10,000 people. Mental retardation is diagnosed in 2/3 of children with early childhood autism (L.Eisenberd, L.Kanner, 1966).

At the same time, 1 out of 10 children with mental retardation suffers from autism (M.Rieser, 1996). In cases of autism with mental retardation, this figure may increase to 20 cases per 10,000 population (Yu.V.Popov, V.D. Vid, 2002).

If earlier, for 10,000 children, 1 child was born with autism, then according to the latest data, between 100-150 children, 1-2 children are born with an autistic predisposition and psychomotor retardation and psycho-verbal development.

It should be noted that the process of normal development of the fetus depends not only in the pre-, peri- and postnatal periods, but also before conception, when the mother or father took any medications, was exposed to chemical, radiation, and other harmful effects and psycho-traumas.
The same influence is exerted by the use of alcohol by parents, psychotropic drugs and substances, in particular, with a subsequent teratogenic and embryocidal effect.

In our practice, up to 2% of sick children, the causes of autism and autistic disorders (psychomotor and psycho-verbal development delays, etc.) can be associated with taking mothers before and during pregnancy with drugs and environmental factors, with their negative embryo, teratogenic, embryo and phototoxic effects.

Currently, there is no single algorithm for providing medical and socio-psychological assistance to these patients, including their families.
