Anorexia nervosa is a severe mental illness characterized by significant weight loss due to the desire to lose “excess weight”. May be accompanied by fear of weight gain and obesity, food aversion and the like.
Such patients have a distorted idea of themselves, low self-esteem, they refuse to follow the recommendations of specialists, they conflict with their relatives. They can only be helped by the joint efforts of the doctor and the patient’s family.

The causes of anorexia nervosa are currently most often associated with traumatic situations but at the same time hormonal disorders, genetic predisposition, traumatic brain injury, and others matter.
More often, anorexia nervosa occurs in adolescent girls in wealthy families. Many such cases have also been registered among women aged 10 to 30 years old, dreaming of a beautiful physique and a model appearance.
In such cases, there is an individual integrated approach that protects the patient from psycho-traumatic factors. Drug therapy is used only as an exception. From our long-term observations, it should be emphasized that patients with anorexia nervosa should be under constant supervision of specialists and annually carry out the supportive and preventive treatment.
