Specific developmental disorder of motor function

Developmental disorders of motor function cannot be explained by mental retardation or by any specific congenital or acquired neurological disorders. The prevalence is about 6% among children aged 5 to 11. More common in boys.

With the developmental disorder of motor function, violations of the dynamic and kinetic praxis are observed. In early childhood, motor awkwardness affects all areas of activity that require coordination. The gait is unstable, children often stumble and hit obstacles, learn to run more slowly, they develop motor skills late in self-care (buttoning, tying laces, etc.). Lack of drawing and graphic skills often creates problems during the period of initial training: poor handwriting, non-compliance with the line, slow pace of work.

The degree of impairment varies from “fine motor skills” to gross motor discoordination. At an older age, secondary disorders (low self-esteem, emotional and behavioral disorders) are often noted.
